EMOTIONS AND FEELINGS:

Emotions are specific reactions to certain events; include cognitive and physiological changes; they are automatic and unconscious.

Feelings are perceptions in the body; not necessarily related to emotions (eg feeling tired or cold); they are a continuous reading of our internal states; are one of the components of emotions.

Plutchik's Wheel of Emotions (source: https://sl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plutchikovo_kolo_%C4%8Dustev from 5/Nov./2022):

"...Plutchik's wheel of emotions is a three-dimensional model that explains the relationships between individual emotions in a similar way to a color wheel.

The model includes eight basic emotions:

  • fear
  • anger
  • joy
  • disgust
  • expectation
  • a surprise
  • sadness
  • (for) hope

Here, every emotion has its opposite emotion, i.e. that emotion which is set against another in the wheel:

  • joy-sadness
  • fear-anger
  • surprise-expectation
  • trust-disgust

The model also assumes eight composite emotions, which again have their opposites:

  • optimism (anticipation and joy)
  • love (joy and trust)
  • submissiveness (trust and fear)
  • awe (fear and surprise)
  • disapproval (surprise and sadness)
  • remorse (sorrow and disgust)
  • contempt (disgust and anger)
  • aggressiveness (anger and anticipation)

The vertical dimension represents the strength of the emotion (e.g. worry, fear, terror), the horizontal dimension the range of emotions, and the spaces in between the composite emotions..."
