Values are the things we cherish most in life. They play a role in shaping our goals, priorities, and identify. Values are heavily influenced by culture; they are influenced by our own beliefs, as well as by our family, friends, and society. Staying true to our values can help us express our most authentic self.

They are the beliefs that define what is most important to us. They guide each of our choices in life. Understanding our values will help us recognize areas of our life need more attention, and what to prioritize in the future.

Values provide direction, and give meaning to life. For example, a person who values family might choose a job that allows her/him to spend more time at home. A person who values fun might surround her-/himself with others who also love fun. Learning about values is an engaging approach to goal setting, inspiring changes in behavior, and decision making. Values are a core component of several therapies, such as acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT; source https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapy-types/acceptance-and-commitment-therapy, 2/Dec./2023).
